AB L36ERM Connection to Vacon via Ethernet/IP

Hi Guys,

I have been asked to integrate a machine with a vacon vsd into a control network. It is a vacon NX and the option board is an OPTCI.This board is a MODBUS/TCP option board. The machine builder says it can communicate via Ethernet Ip.The manual for the option card refers to Ethernet ip as well as Modbus set up. I have tried to set it up in the I/O tree in RSlogix 5000 V20.1 as a generic Ethernet Module but I can not set the input and output assembly in the manual it shows as not used. The manual is very vague and when I look on the net for vacon I keep getting redirected to the Danfoss web site. Do I need to use a pro soft MV169E-MBTP?

MV169E-MBTP has only serial ports. For Modbus TCP/IP application you have MVI69-MNET:

Prosoft modules are integrated in the Logix I/O tree using a generic module. Also Prosoft provides the logic to run the communications. You only need to design your communications table (registers to be read/writen on your remote I/O).

I think if you know about modbus specifications, you have all the tools you need to start the integration.

By the way, I think you would must consider adding a hardwired stop signal from the PLC to the VSD.

Can you point where does it say that it supports Ethernet/IP protocol?

It looks like this car supports Modbus TCP only.
You may be able to use Modbus TCP Sample code via Sockets or Prosoft Modbus TCP card.
