Hi Guys. I am trying to connect a Micrologix 1400 with the Panelview 550 (DH485).
The laptop is connected through RS232 on the AIC+, ML1400 with the 8 pin round connector and the PV550 (with RJ45 end) and Phoenix on the AIC+ side.
The RSLinx can see the ML1400 but not the PV550. Don't know why.
Any help is appreciated.

At DH485 cable I use the 3 wires only as the manual describes (page 14).
Phenix plug: Pin5-Orange with white stripes, Pin4 - white with orange stripes, and
Pin3-blue with white stripes. Pin2 -No shiel, Pin1- no chs ground

RSLinx driver is AB_DF1-1, DH-485 (RS232 cable connected).
PV: Baud 19200, node 4.
ML1400 PLC: Baud 19200, node 1
RSLinx: Baud 19200, station 00.
AIC+: Baud Auto, all green lights are flashing- communicating

What's likely going on is that the MicroLogix and your computer are configured for DF1 Full Duplex protocol. Even with the AIC+ and associated cables involved, they can still communicate.

But the PanelView, of course, uses DH485 protocol.

The MicroLogix 1400 is easy to set up for DH485; just change the protocol for Channel 0 in the controller properties in RSLogix 500, then download.

But your computer will very likely need a 1747-UIC USB/DH485 converter. The old 1747-PIC/AIC driver is finicky and will only work with Windows XP SP2 or older.

If it were my system I'd just choose the alternative methods of access to those devices; talk to the MicroLogix 1400 over its other serial port or over Ethernet, and use a CompactFlash card to load applications into the PanelView terminal.

Thats why I purchased the AIC+ to make it possible at once to have the laptop, ML1400 and the PV550 work together. I thought that the AIC+ will convert to DH485.
According the AIC+ manula is possible.
My PV550 is an old model and tried CF card, did not work. Need very old version of CF.
To set up ML1400 to DH485 is, yes, easy. But what cable can I use?
The PV550 has only RJ45. How can I convert RJ45 for DIN 9 pin plug?

The AIC+ is not a protocol converter.

It's RS232 isolator and a RS232 to RS485 (electrical spec) converter (isolator).

Thanks Mickey.
I attached the PDF files of the manual where the picture shows how to connect the PV550 to the phoenix plug. The Three node network.
According that description I wanted to connect those 3 elements to work in the same time.
So, I can't connect? That means all of those are working on the RS232/RS485protocol? The plug 3 is not DH485?
Thanks for your help.

If thats the case, is it possible to make a cable from RJ45 plug to Din 9 pin plug or
RJ45plug to Round 8 pin plug?
that way I can connect my ML1400 to the PV550

You can use that connection just as it is shown. But as Ken stated the driver in RSLinx (your PC) has to be DH485 protocol.

If your PC does not have a real serial port then the 1747-UIC is your best bet. As ken stated the PIC driver is very hit and miss.

FYI: RS232/RS485 is not a protocol it's an electrical specification.

Just to clarify: if the PV and the ML1400 uses DH485 (AIC+ connection), in that case RS232 plug is not possible to use as RS232 (DF1, DH485 driver)?

Correct the DF1 driver will not work because the protocol for the ML1400 and the PV is DH485. You will have to use the DH485 driver.

Reread Ken's post.
