Message between Compact L35E and Control L73

A bit new to setting up messaging instructions but I copied another in the program. Seem to have everything set up but still comes up as a connection error.

If I am able to go online with both processor's from the same computer - does that automatically mean I can message between them? They are on totally different networks but I'm able to go online with them both - the L35 directly through a network setup for it and the L73 through a 1756-EN2TR card in the rack with the L73. The computer I'm using has 2 network cards.

IP's are 192.168.100.88 for the Compact, and 142.70.31.151 for the EN2TR card in the rack with the L73.

The short answer is no, you can't directly message between the two processors if they are on different networks. A simple option would be to add an ENBT card to your ControlLogix rack, address it to the subnet of your CompactLogix (192.168.100.xxx) and run a cat5 to a switch on that network.

I'm not extremely experienced with all of this.
The 192 network has a subnet of 255.255.255.0.
The 142 network has a subnet of 255.255.255.0
Gateway of 142.70.39.137
Primary DNS 142.70.28.137

If that info is of any relevance.

From your post, I don't think there exists a route between the two subnets.

If you were able to hop onto 142 and ping something on 192, then those are routed.

Having two network cards is why you can reach both, but they can't see each other.

Grab your network folks and ask them, but I agree w/ Jeremy that it doesn't sound like they are routed.

Would it be possible to have them routed? Or would it be too difficult/not worth the effort?

If you have a router or layer 3 switch with routing enabled, yes.
