Does anyone know if a 3.6V, after market battery will work? Or could this possibly cause issues?? Thanks in advance!

I tried to get Batteries + to make up a battery for me but they said that the battery is Lithium and they wouldnt solder on the battery leads. I would say if you can find a battery with the leads that fit the PLC you should be good.

If you want to order a new battery, one of the forum members has a web site http://www.plccable.com/ They have good prices and service.

I use the lithium batteries with the PCB pins.
I solder (quickly) the original battery connector to the new battery pins and then shrink a clear tubing over it.

They have been working for years.
The original were from ~1996.

In the future, I will consider Mark (geniusintraining) as a source. I have sourced PV50 faces from him.

Thank you!!!

I bought a replacement from Batteries+ and it came as a 3.6V. Suppose I will have to send this one back. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply :)

1747-L20, -L30, -L40, -L511- Battery provides back-up for approximately 5 years

1747-L514, -L524, -L531, -L532, -L541, -L542, -L543, -L551, -L552, -L553 - Battery provides back-up for approximately 2 years

BATTERY LOW/BATT red LED indicator ON when battery voltage has fallen below threshold level or the battery and the battery jumper is missing

Installation:
SLC 500 - 1 in holder, behind processor front cover
SLC 5/01, -5/02 - 1 in retaining clips, behind processor front door
SLC-5/03, -5/04, -5/05 - 1 in retaining clips, processor left side rear
Accessories 1747-BAJMPR Battery Jumper

Notes:
The SLC 500 Fixed Controllers, 1747-L20, -L30, -L40 and the 1747-L511, SLC 5/11 processor have a back-up capacitor to maintain the contents of the RAM for a period of 5 to 30 days. If a longer period of back-up time is required than that, install the optional 1747-BA battery.

The SLC 5/03, 5/04 and 5/05 processors have a capacitor that provides at least 30 minutes of battery back-up while the battery is disconnected. Data in RAM is not lost if the battery is replaced within 30 minutes.

Yes, certain ones of the right spec will. We have been making our own for years with various different batteries from various different manufacturers with no issues to report other than the little hassle of doing the soldering. they are nearly always 3.6V, so I wouldn't worry too much on that front. It's quite possible the one you have will do the job.

The latest battery we have been using is the VARTA ER 1/2 AA with pre-soldered legs. you can see it at the top here, along with others we've used or made...

I get them from Allied Electronics. I think they were about 3 bucks a piece. A lot cheaper than the $90 A/B wants for them with there name on it.

Does anyone know what the part number for the connector is? The price for the assembly from our distributor is $390/cdn... The batteries are $13 from Newark. I would rather build my own.

The only problem I have ever had with aftermarket batteries was for ControlLogix and batteries bought from batteries. com. [intentional space to not give them any link]

Normal batteries (I think I remember an old 5555, ver 20 CPU) that had a rated battery life of 5 years and the batteries I bought from there lasted 6 months at the most.

Now I only buy from G.I.T. at plccables.com as suggested above.
