We use the 1771-SIM card in a lot of our PLC5s here for when we need in panel switches for various maintenance tests. We are in the process of upgrading our PLCs to Contrologix. I as of yet have not been able to find a card in the RS5000 family that does the same thing.

Do any of you know if there is one or if not why they decided not to have one?

What kind of solutions for in panel switches do you all use that does what the 1771-SIM did?

Mort, That is a completely different type module that requires a resolver to be wired to it. The 1771-SIM just had 8 toggle switches and 8 led lights on it, no external wiring needed.

Yes, and I said closest match, you asked what alternatives you used within panels, this would do just that. 4/4 on left, and 4/4 on right make 8 in and 8 out. I realize you have to wire them, put in your own toggles and you have the same thing. Why did AB decide to do or not to do? Ask them I guess.

There is an input card made by Rockwell the 1756-SIM but AFAIK it was never sold direct to the public and is discontinued by AB but you can find them like here.

Most descriptions say input and output but if my memory serves correctly they only do inputs so you would need a 8 or 16 point standard output card to have output status lights.

They sell digital and analog input simulators here also http://www.plcdev.com/plc_simulators

This is another good source for analog and temperature simulators http://www.theautomationstore.com/brands/PLC-Tools.html

I have seen those Ebay cards but I don't typically use Ebay/Amazon unless that is the only source for an old part that we need to get us back going.

If it is something I have to wire up, I might as well just use a standard input card and figure out some enclosure for the toggle switches.

Does anyone know the part number for that plug that plugs into the 1771 devicenet scanner? The manual just says it is a linear plug, its 5 pins.
