DL06 fried - modules and c-more as well?

What I think happened:
Direct Logic DL06 in a coffee roaster which had a loose +24v connection (the +24 ran into a analog IO module), the +24v wire slipped out of it's terminal, one end still remaining in the PLC and contacted the 120v HOT wire terminal. Made a big ol spark and crash!

This is all an assumption of what happened based on the location of the scorch marks. The PLC is obviously fried, doesn't receive any signal from serial. Both my RTD and my Analog IO module don't work anymore (I tested in another PLC, installing them actually causes the PLC to shut down so I quickly removed to avoid frying that one too) The baffling one however is that my c-more micro screen which was interfaced in the phone jack serial connection on DL06 is also fried. Shouldn't there be some diode or fuse to protect from this?

How can I prevent this in the future (in the off chance a wire falls out, that was a total mystery how it happened). It'd be one thing if I needed a new PLC but I'm out a grand now from this little spark.

Hear ya there. Good thing the main ac terminal is right by the main dc terminal... Dude who originally installed this didn't set it up well.

I guess I didn't realize how sensitive the Plc was to (very) incorrect voltage. I don't know a ton about electronics though.
