heathkit

Wow,

looks like a far cry from what I remember about Heathkit. Not for hobbyest/amatures anymore....

actually considering what kids are learning now adays in highschool,,i think its still a basic level class for hobbiest,,,

just curious if employers put any credit to it

I still have one of their weather stations that I built from a kit. Probably not too many would remember those.

Back in the old days...

A long time ago I remember helping(watching) my dad put together an FM stereo receiver. I also recall getting chased out after laughing at him when he constantly burned his fingers using a monster sized Weller soldering gun. The thing was HUGE and had a little lightbulb underneath the element. Must have weighed 5 pounds.

But to answer Fred's question: with the varied employers I've had none have ever provided any do-it-yourself training. I've gone to a few classes for industry specific training (Fanuc robots, RSLogix500).
It seems like the Heathkit trainer, or something along those lines, would be a good idea for a refresher. I've forgotten a lot (most?) of my electronics since my military days. Maybe I should get one...
