Hi, I would like to run AdvancedHMI with a CompactLogix - hopefully a L16. However, I have a constraint that the PC is Windows XP, therefore, will need to run an older version of aHMI. Does anyone know the compatibility of VS, aHMI and CPX versions that will work?

Are you developing on XP or just deploying?

To develop applications on XP you will need to go all the way back to Visual Studio 2010 Express, which may be hard to find now that it is 4 major versions old. I did find this link, but not sure if it works:

If you are only deploying to XP, then you only need to install .NET framework 4.0 on the target machine and can use any version of Visual Studio to develop with.

In that latter case, I do recommend Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition. If you use 2017, see this post before installing:

The actual AdvancedHMI software is based on .NET 4, so the latest version of it is still compatible with XP.

Hi Archie, thanks for your reply. I will be integrating this into an existing application, therefore, would like to develop on XP. Do you know what release version of aHMI will work with an L16?

Just use the latest advanced HMI. Compact logic has been supported for a long time now, probably a couple of years

Thanks Shawn, but VS2012 does not run on XP.

Thanks Archie, I installed xp sp3, vs2010 and sp1, but can not install that patch for some reason. If I try and open 3.99w I get missing common7\IDE. I have 3.21 running trying to connect to a L32E for testing but for some reason have no comms (and no errors as to why not).

I found this that may help on the installation problem:

I do not recommend using 3.21 because the driver is not nearly as well refined and stable as 3.99a and above. The only thing that keeps 3.99w from opening in VS2010 is a small detail in the solution file, but nothing to do with the code itself. A user on the AdvancedHMI forum had found the AdvancedHMI.sln file can be edited with Notepad to make it work, but it is kind of a hack so I cannot offer any assistance or guarantee it will work.

When you open in VS2010 and get the error, what do you see in Solution Explorer?

Hi Archie, thanks, downloading now following that link

I have 3.99 running ok on my laptop on VS2015 so it'd be great if I can get 3.99 on 2010 running.

See attached for solution explorer
