Hi all.

We've got a computer running Windows server 2003 that we use as a hmi using factorytalk studio and interrogate using rslogix.

Unfortunately the hdd is slowly dying off.

We have purchased a new windows 10 donor pc however the pci slow is not physocallt big enough to accept the 1784-pcic card.

My question is what is the modern day you guys set up these rigs now? Can we not just simply go from Ethernet on the desktop to the plc contrologix ignoring the controlnet connections directly? I know these pci cards are outdated now also so just wondering on the route i should go?

Thanks in advance

This connection is only advised for short term connectivity however compared to long 24/7 connection I've read on here

I've not dealt with that hardware before, but I would suggest that your FTView project is probably configured to use that connection, and you will at the very least have to change the communications path(s) if you plan to go straight to ethernet.

If it were my system, I'd definitely be using the opportunity to go straight to ethernet - but how simple (or not) that might actually be I can't tell you without a lot more detail about the system.

Can you run the two PC's side by side for a time, to get the bugs ironed out before you put the 2003 machine out of its misery?

There is no other available, modern method to connect a PC to a ControlNet network; the USB CNet interface, if properly installed (and guarded!) could substitute for continuous duty.

Yes, and this would be the preferred method to connect the PC running FTVME Station to the Logix system if EtherNet/IP connectivity is available.
