S7 and S5

Hi!
I'm extending a factory use control system S5 of Siemens. Customer wants to change S5 by S7 system but they want to keep existing system:

+ Put all controls in new S7 system
+ Connect new system and olds(ONLY LEFT I/O FUNCTION) via PROFIBUS

what hardware do I need to connect two systems?

(I've asked my distributor, he said it's possible but he did'nt know exactly.)

Any information will be appricated!

DUY,

it all depends. What type of S5 do you have to replace/include in what type of S7. One thing is sure: use a CPU with a build-in Profibus-DP port. Configuration is a lot easier than with a 'normal' CPU in combination with a Profibus-DP Communications Processor.

On the S5 side you have to know what type of I/O modules are to be used: S5-100U, S5-115U or S5-135U types. You need the following Profibus modules:
  • S5-100U: IM318-B (6ES5 318-8MB12) or IM318-C (6ES5 318-8MC11)
  • S5-115U: IM 308-C (6ES5 308-3UC11) in combination with an adapter module (6ES5 491-0LB11)
  • S5-115U: IM 308-C (6ES5 308-3UC11)
It could however be hard to find these modules because of the 'end-of-life' status of S5. You'll have to switch over to complete S7 systems in the long run.

Kind regards,

308-3uc11 use

my factory use S5 -135U system ,we used 308-3ub11 communication with et200(6es5 318-308mb12),but 308-3ub11 is bad,now we have a spare of 308-3uc11U,but it has not memory card ,this 308-3uc11U card has not program ,and we also get a memory card.
do we need anymore ,and how can i do?

I'll second Jean Pierre's comment that you have to exchange the entire S5 system for S7 sooner rather than later.

The non-CPU S5 parts (PSU, Input modules, Output modules etc) will start to fail, and you will be unpleasantly surprised when you learn about price and delivery time for the spares.

A typical S5 system can be exchanged completely by a much smaller (and less expensive) S7 system.
