Gray code encoder on SLC 5/05

Can anyone direct me to a programming example for using an AB 845D encoder into a SLC 5/05? I have a very simple application to write that uses machine position, but I have never used an encoder in AB. If someone could point me to a sample program it would be very helpful.

this SLC 5/05 program converts grey code to binary
but be sure to mask off unused inputs before moving the input word to N7:0. ,N7:1 is your binary value.
