Hello, I am charting new waters (for me). I have a saw fence that I have been charged with automating. I would like to know how to select an AB servo motor appropriate for this load please. My question and statements will obviously be dumb as I am starting very new at this. I am pretty sure I need to know how much force is required to move the fence but don't know how to do that, using something I may have in house. The fence is rather heavy, although I don't have an exact weight. I am sure I could squirm my way through selecting an ordinary motor however, selecting the servo motor sent a shiver up my spine....no experience, no knowledge. My predecessor has already purchased a Kinetix5500 servo drive unit. Thank you

Does Rockwell have any free sizing software for the Kinetix line? You could contact the automation specialist at your AB distributor and ask for his help in properly selecting the correct size.
Simply measuring the required torque to move the fence will not account for acceleration. If you select the motor based on the reading from a torque wrench your selection could limit you to a too-slow acceleration rate. If you don't have to move the fence very often and you're not too concerned with how long it takes to reposition it, sizing the motor based on the torque wrench may be acceptable.
