Hi all,

I am writing drivers for communication with siemens S7 and mitsubishi PLC's.

I know siemens uses the RFC1006 protocol for communication via TCP/IP, but what protocol is used by mitsubishi??

Thanks!

The Mitsubishi Ethernet cards support both an ASCII based protocol and a "binary" version. These are described in detail (with examples) in the manuals for the cards. If you do not have a manual I believe that they can be downloaded from the Mitsubishi Electric website.

yes, but for their serial communication, it is easy to get the protocol...

Why don't they do this with their ethernet communication??

I'll try and search for the manual at the site!

Top secret = embedded chips

About this equipament?
It equipament
Never one hardware, in projetcs. My position is Mitsubishi make chips ASICs, your CPU... etc Exist chips, for specific comunication protocol TC/IP is one, have any companies make.
If have hardware, open and write codes chips is possible confirmatiom. Search keywords chips TCIP protocol.

Possible get part information Or complete, need register to download, i not see. If complete talk.

well, it was a little hard to read your article (no offence), but I registered myself.

The pdf-document is attached, but it isn't a protocol :(

I just need to know which protocol mitsubushi is using, because we don't want to use the standard drivers mitsubishi delivers.

i was using mitsubishi ethernet and i don't see what is supposedly
so secret about it. the manuals are free for download. you can do
anything you want with the product such as having very long reading
material.
one thing i wish was better documented is UDP but that didn't
stop anyone from using it.

IB(NA)66661-F
SH(NA)3598-E
SH(NA)080192
etc.

It covers how to send binary or ascii message, how to use ftp,
how to read and write from another controller etc.
am I missing something?

Well, this is strange, because I called Mitsubishi in the Netherlands, and they told me the protocol was "secret".

Even though we have more than 500 PLC's in our company, still they didn't gave us the protocol.

But, we could buy software...........

Well, we don't want software, we want to write software ourselves, we only need the protocol.

Maybe in other countries it's different.

just go to mitsubishi website and download user manuals for ethernet cards you have. they explain in detail how to write to another controller's memory directly.

MC Protocol

The name of the protocol running over TCP/IP is "Melsec Communication Protocol" also abbreviated as "MC Protocol". The url below should link to a pdf file of the manual for this protocol.

http://www.meau.com/functions/dms/getfile.asp?ID=010000000000000001000000238604000

I haven't tried the link because I'm on a low speed modem link at the moment and the pdf would take 40 minutes to download. If I'm wrong try searching for "Melsec Communication Protocol Reference Manual".

Good luck

Thanks a lot!

I found the right manual! But now I have another question:

Is there such a document for Siemens s7?? I know the procol they are using, but the message data and return codes are still unknown.

Thanks a lot!

S7? No Idea!

If you need the S7 protocol details I would try making a new post with the title "Siemens S7 TCP/IP Protocol". There are a several Siemens specialists on this forum who will definitely help when they see a Siemens related thread.

Best Regards
