Simatic S7

Problem:

PLC 315 2dp connect via serial cable to XP PC. PC running Simatic S7 V5.1. Ocasionally when attempting any com port function (online/download,etc.) PC blue screen, crash? Any known issues with this version of Simatic and windows XP. Your responce would be greatly appreciated as I am up to my neck in you know what.

You are using an adapter with that cable..correct? Siemens requires an adapter, straight serial wont work.

STEP7 needs to be version 5.2 or higher to work with XP.
And XP needs to be SP1 or SP1a.

I should have remember that too. I have S7 ver 5.0 which doesnt work with XP. I had both RSL500 ver 5.0 and S7 ver 5.0 and needed to upgrade both to 5.2. The RSL has been but I still have S7 5.0.

Thank you jesper, as I had suspected, sp2 strikes yet again. I had the same issues with GE's Machine Edition, what a pain!

Actually it is more probable the low version number of your STEP7 that is the problem, not SP2 of your Windows XP.

I have STEP7 installed on PCs with XP SP2 without any appearant problems. But it is unreleased and unsupported by Siemens.
I have heard that STEP7 works with XP SP2 except configuring under NetPro.
