I am trying to teach myself a bit of plc programming with a Idec Micro-1. I have the hand held programmer for this but would like to connect to my my PC and use WindLDR software. I need to know the pinouts to make a cable also do i plug into the same port where the handheld is plugged into or do i use the 10 pin connector which is also on this PLC.
regards,
John

The Idec Micro 1 must have a cable with a built in converter, you can buy these from NR&D for around $195. The cable will plug into the RJ11 jack on the PLC just as the handheld does. Idec also brand labeled the Micro 1 for Squard D. So, you may find a cable from either your Idec or a Square D distributor, but the NR&D cable is much less expensive than all of the cables and converters you buy from Idec or Square D.

Hmmm.... IDEC says the list price for the FC1A-CLA (http://www.idec.com/usa/html/prodsupport_faqs_plc3.html) cable is $85
Newark Electronics sells it (P/N 50B4189 (http://search.newark.com/part_detail.phtml?PART%5FID=250&VID=250&10005=50B4189)) for $96.66... Go figure!
You may also look into cables for HMIs... KEP sells a cable (with converter) (P/N SMICIDEC-M1) to connect a Micro1 to their HMI, which is RS-232. This might be a cheaper alternative. And don't forget, there's always Ebay! :D

Eric,
While you are correct on the cable price as I recall this does not include the converter which is seperate. Once you add the converter the cost for communications is much greater than the cost of the NR&D cable. As your suggestion to use KEP's cable and adaptor this might be a option, as well as your E-bay suggestion for John to try.

Sid,
Though ALL replys are ALWAYS appreciated!!!, the QuickPanel cable diagram won't do John much good as he still would need IDEC's link adapter, which is way overpriced. Nice of you to offer up this info anyway!
Mike,
From IDEC's FAQ Description (http://www.idec.com/usa/html/prodsupport_faqs_plc3.html)(<-- link), I would think that this cable DOES include the converter since they say "From the Micro1 to the computer", but I would definitely make sure it WAS included before I ordered one! ;)

Hello,
Pretty much the same deal, new to PLC's but I need to get familiar with them as fast as possible. I have a computer with WindLDR ready, and I have the MicroSmart PLC, but everything I try doesn't work.
Any obscure ideas are welcome, my company has access to just about anything that will make the network function properly.
Thanks!

I dont get it.
Some years ago, I got my cable and converter, and software with an Idec "starter kit". I spilled about $150.00 for it all, at the local Galco store. It even included a Micro 1 to boot.
What happened?

I was wondering if anyone would know the pinout for FC4A-KC4CA, for 485 or 232, my boss was tinkering and took the end off of ours.
Thanks!

Josh,
Your part no. dosnt match up with anything I have, so I did a search on Idec's website, and came up empty there too. Your boss is in BIG trouble now.:notrue:

Yikes. I'll have to check that part number, I couldn't find it on their site either. I think it was just a 9-pin connecter on one end and a DIN (i believe) on the other.
I'll keep looking, and thanks elevmike =)

Probably because it's almost a year old...
HERE'S (http://www.geindustrial.com/cwc/gefanuc/support/OperatorInterfaces/quickpanel-m-cd.htm) a more current link to QuickPanel cable diagrams. I don't see the Micro 1 listed though. Only the Micro 3.

I still can't get the MicroSmart to talk to my PC. The only thing I can see to do is make a custom cable, with a 9-pin end and just wire the other end to the A B SG input.
Does anyone know if this will work?

I highly doubt it. Although, there's a good chance you could destroy the COM port on the Micro and/or your PC... :nodi:
You need a converter, period.

good day!
Ive been working with microsmart plc and its working good. now, winldr software have the option for micro-1 plc but I dont have the cable, is there a way I can do to have my micro plc working as well? or do you have an idea of an adaptor or something i could match with the existing cable I am working with in order to access micro-1?

Hello everyone,
I first came across this forum after I bought some idec Micro-1 PLC's. I have yet to do anything with them. The reason I'm posting is that I have a copy of WindLDR v1.0 and I also have a cable with the converter circuit shown in the schematic pdf above, I can post some pictures and even a board trace if I get time. Would this be of any help?

Micro1Source,
If you don't get a response to this thread try opening a new one since this one is a few years old. I wish I had the info you need.
