Good evening/morning,

One of my customers wants to purchase the communication cable between a PanelView 500 (DH485) and a PC, He asked me to support hem.

I'm not that AB guy, but I went to AB websie at THIS LINK
And I ended up with these results, To interface with the PanelView 500 using:-
1- To interface the PC's USB:
1747-UIC (USB to DH-485 Interface Converter)

2- To interface the PC's RS232:
1747-PIC (interface between a DH-485 and RS-232, Powered through a DH-485 device)

So can you please give me the OK about these results?

Another thing: I can see that these 2 modules are "converters" not cables, So do I need extra cable or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance

Do you mean a Panelview 550?

Those are the correct cables. You may need to add a 24V power supply for the DH485. AB sells it, I don't have the part # in front of me.

You are also correct that they are converters. DH485 is based on the rs485 standard. Your PC is either USB or RS-232. DH485 also includes a 24VDC pair, which is sometimes used to power the converter.

If you go the 1747-UIC route, you will also need a 1747-C13 cable as well. Also, find out if the PV550 is DH-485 with a true DH-485 connection, or if it is DH-485 with an RS-232 (9-pin d-shell) conection. If it has the DH-485 connection, you will need either the PIC or the UIC; if it is an RS-232 connection, you will need the 1747-CP3 (null-moden) cable. The DH-485 connector models will have a P/N of 2711-x5A2 or -x5A3; the RS-232 connector models will be 2711-x5A5 or -x5A9. If the PV550 is connected to a SLC already, you won't need the 1747-NP1 power supply as the DH-485 link will be drawing its 24 vdc power from the SLC com port.
