I am a self taught newbie to PLC programming and I am getting a windows virtual memory error when I try to upload to my laptop. I'm very much confused since at the time of the creation of this PLC people were running ancient machines. I tried lowering the baud rate, but it didn't help. I have a 1.4 GHZ, 256 MB RAM, DELL. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

i'm not familiar with what the software you're using, but if it's an old program and you're using win XP, you might have to run it in emulation mode. right click on the program file's .exe and there's a tab where you can emulate other versions of windows.

i'm not on a windows machine right now, so i can't give you better directions.

more info would be helpful.

more info

The software I'm using is WindLDR v4.6 and I'm running the serial to link adapter to PLC. Part numbers "PFA-1A51 (cable from FA to link adaptor)
PF2-CLA (link adaptor)
PFA-1A54A(cable from link adaptor to PC)"
I run windows XP on my machine. Thanks for taking the time guys, it's very appreciated!

The Idec FA1-J was also sold badged Symax 50. If you search this site's Questions & Answers for Symax 50 you will find some links that may help.

I beleive the comms runs at 9600 baud.

Also note that you can only write to the CMOS ram memory module, and would require the Hand held Programmer to write to the EEPROM memory module
Jim.

Thanks Jim, I was running 9600 baud, even tried lowering it. A guy from work called an engineering company that told him about the WindLDR. I'm pretty sure it uses EEPROM memory. So I guess I'm out of luck, unless I get CMOS memory and write a new program eh? I'll check out the other name you gave me. Thanks again
