I am doing my first 'smartbelt' application utilizing CL 1756-L61 processor, 1756-M08 Sercos module, and the Kinetix 6000 Servos.

Rather than re-invent the wheel, I am trying to get a jump on the learning curve by reading as much material as possible before starting the job.

Rockwell have a brief smartbelt application note available, and it is very general. Does anyone have a link or know of a site that has more detail?

Thanks

What kind of info do you want?
Gearing?

I am looking more for the implimentation of the controls , and not so much about the mechanical aspect of it all. I am replacing an existing wrapper that has an old 'italian job' imbedded controller doing the 'smart belt' phasing and registration control of wrapper onto product.

Talk to your local AB distributor's motion specialist. If he has attended HOTT training in the last year, he should have a very complete smart-belt application that he can use to answer your questions.

Unfortunately that is part of my problem. It seems I know more about the Kinetix 6000 line than our local distributor's motion specialist. He was also the one that told me 'Rockwell have a great smart-belt sample application'. Right now he is as useful as mammary glands on a male bovine.

Sample programs

Look in the sample programs folder in Logix 5000. I think it is installed under the project folder. There is a flying cut example that you should be able to modify to work with what you are trying to do.
