How do you go about programming a thumbwheel switch's i/o address?

That entirely depends on the type of thumbwheel and PLC. Do you have any specifics?

It is a LogixPro PLC simulator, with a Celsius degree being turned to Fahrenheit by math instructions.

What about the thumbwheel? What kind of output for the thumbwheel? (Bin, BCD, serial etc...)

I have always done it the hard way, with BCD switches into a lot of inputs, then wierd math.

Never done it the simple method.

Casey, this is the hard way. It's commonly refered to as the game of "20 Questions".

Well let's assume you have a BCD thumbwheel, and dosn't understand what BCD is. Check out this link for and explanation of BCD. BCD link

After that, check back in and we can go to the next step, converting BCD to decimal.

I never realised a thumbwheel switch had an address, I always thought it was a simple dumb wheel switch. I have been active in this field of experience for 25 years thinking it was the inputcard that had an address. Silly me
