Hi,

I am having one ehternet port on my laptop and I was wondering if I can use that to connect to SLC500 ch 1. and also to PanelView Plus 700 ethernet port??, or the best thing to do is to connect other ethernet channel to the USB on my laptop by buying a hub or something from radio shack.

Thanks

Anks,

I think you would be best off buying an ethernet switch. Connect one cable from the PLC comm module (or processor, not sure how SLCs work) to the switch, one cable from the panelview to the switch, and one cable from the laptop to the switch.

that should take care of your problem.

Get an inexpensive Ethernet switch, with "10/100" speed capability. Virtually every consumer-grade switch from vendors like Linksys and Netgear are like this.

That's the setup that everyone uses. You can plug your PanelView Plus (100 Mb/s port) and your SLC-5/05 (10 or 100, depending on vintage) and your PC (probably 100 Mb/s port) into it.

Read up on the basics of Ethernet and TCP/IP, in particular the "Ten Things You Should Know about TCP/IP" document on the A-B website.
