PLC5 without RSLinx

Does anyone know of a tutorial or anything for communicating from a PC to an A-B PLC5 without RSLinx over Ethernet? There are many products on the market, but we are looking into writing something ourselves with C++. It would also need to be Windows based. Any samples would also be great. Thanks.

I've looked at the ABEL stuff and was unable to port it. (Lack of good porting skills). Has anyone ported ABEL to Windows?

I have a few customers that have converted ABEL to windows. They use ABEL to talk to our industrial product. We wrote our own AB Ethernet code before we heard of Ron Gage and ABEL.ZIP. We also used a Ethernet packet sniffer.
