Hello,

I've recently converted 3 existing processes from an OPTO22 control system to a SLC 5/05. Now that everything is in operation, my ethernet connection is dropping on a daily basis. It will not come back up until power is cycled on the processor. Anyone know of any issues that have caused this in the past.

While the connection is working, it works great

Thanks

What kind of Ethernet switch are the controllers connected to ?

What is the device or computer that is "dropping the connection" ?

Do you have firmware versions or software revisions you can cite ?

SLC-5/05 controllers are generally very straightforward and reliable in their connections to Ethernet networks.

I'm surprised that the Opto22 connection was more reliable. We've got both Opto22 LCM4 and AB SLC 5/05 controllers on our network and AB definately has a way better mean time between failures from what I've seen.

Do you know if the network connections run back to a switch or a hub? We had a couple 5/05's talking through a hub and when that hub got too many collisions one of the two 5/05's would kick offline till things calmed down. Replacing the hub with a cheap unmanaged switch took care of the issue.

If the network connections run back to a managed switch, the issue may be in the port settings.

Post some more info and you might have some more luck getting a helpful reply.
