Micrologix 1000

I have used Direct logic PLCs and software for sometime now and I am trying to understand a little of Allen Bradley software and PLCs.I purchased a Micrologix 1000 plc along with the cable and have downloaded the free RSlinx software.I am having a problem commuicating with the plc. Can someone give me the steps needed to commuicate with this Plc.

What is the exact model number of the ML1000 you have, the free software only works with one model, 1761-L10BXB

If you have the correct model check here on how to set up DF1, this is for a 1500 but I think it should work, just a few changes
