F2-20GF1 interface for Mitsubishi F PLC

Hi,
Does anyone anyone know exactly what the interface F2-20GF1 for the Mitsubishi F PLC actually does?? I know it's not just a simple converter since there are several IC's and other components inside. Is it storeing anything or converting the signals from the PC ???
