Does anyone know if a password protected 90-30 PLC can be backed up and restored? I think they were programmed in LM90 but I can't be sure. I don't need to alter the programs but I don't have access to the originals anymore either - the company just ain't there any more!

Thanks, my learning curve makes Everest look flat

I don't have time to check right now, but I will later.

I think password protected programs can use the Logicmaster backup/restore procedures. The backup will also be password protected. Things may be different if the original programmer used the OEM key rather than the standard password.

Please check the program and post which level of password is set.

Thanks Steve. My dilemma is that my employer wants to backup these PLC's (about 200 of them used in elevator controllers) but we don't have a working version of the software to do it and he won't spend the money to buy Proficy or even Versapro unless he thinks it will do the job. Years ago we had a working version of LM90 and my recollection was that the security was at the highest level and that I couldn't even view the program. Unfortunately, when I tried to get the LM90 software loaded on a computer all he could produce was the backup disk set I made for him 8 years ago and it brings up an error message saying these aren't the original master disks - handy! Sooo, I've been given this task without means to properly accomplish it, just call me Dilbert! Anyways, your help is greatly appreciated, and even if you're unsure of the answer it's a heck of a lot more than I have now

Thanks again

If the program in the PLC has been protected using the OEM key, you will not be able to upload it from the PLC to the computer running Logicmaster.

If the program has a level 4 password set, you will be able to upload, backup, restore, whatever. If the PLC has a level 4 password, and you can only get to level 3, you have to stop the PLC to write changes to the program and you can't change the password.

You should contact the nearest GE Fanuc distributor and ask to talk to their Automation Specialist. Someone might be willing to pay you a visit and try to connect to one of those 200 PLCs to see exactly what you're up against. As someone mentioned in one of your other threads, the VersaPro installation CD includes Logicmaster software. Your distributor should still have VersaPro CDs even though VersaPro has been superseded by Proficy Machine Edition.

You said your boss won't authorize purchase of the tools you need to do your job. If he places no value on your time, you could try writing an SNP driver program from information in the manual GFK-0582 which can be found on the GE Fanuc website. The status word of an SNP slave response tells whether or not OEM protection is in force.

Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve, that gives me quite alot to work with. My boss is a funny guy, no concept of time vs money - spend $2000 in time to see if it's worth buying the $1000 program!. You're going to have to change your sign - that answer was good, fast, and the price was exceptional.

Best wishes and thanks again
