Motor control in HMI

Hello all

I"ve got a question here that might make sense or not. I'm installing an HMI on a packaging machine that we built and we currently drive the conveyor with a DC motor. What I would like to know is if the motor speed can be adjusted through a command in the HMI. I'm using an AB micrologix 1500? I've never done this before and I'm just wondering if it can be done?
And if anybody has done this in the past would you share you idea with me.

The HMI I'm using is an eztouch EZC-S6M-E 6"

What kind of input signal do you have on your DC drive. (4-20mA perhaps). If so than the answer is yes you can. I'm not an A-B guy but there are many here who are.

As long as you have an analog output tied to the DC controller you can read or write from the EZTouch. I have one panel with the same EZTouch controlling 4 VFD's and a much more equipment for a small pilot project.

All depends on the motor controller.

Some controllers have preset speed inputs, you could use a DO to switch between the different speeds. Some also have a motorised pot function, this could also be used via a DO.

This negates the need for analogue outputs.

What functionality does the motor controller have?

The motor control I'm using only has an On/Off function and a pot for speed control. It is your very basic DC Drive. no analog outputs tied in.
It was a crazy idea I thought of while I was wiring in the panel. So I thought I would just check to see if it was ever done...

You'll need to replace the pot with an analog output card. Then you scale the output & pass data from a variable set on the HMI to the analog output.

You'll need to post part numbers, & we can help with a proper schematic, parts list, & the programming will be the easy part, I promise.
