I just installed a serial card in my new computer. It has two ports and they are configured for com1 and com2. My 1747-UIC is on com3. When I try and use the UIC with rslinx I get an error

RsLinx has failed to configure the com port!
The com port may already be in use

Any Ideas?

I'm about to pull my hair out and I got lots of it to pull...

If you added the serial card then check Control Panel to see if you have a conflict with ports. Com 1 and 3 use the same IRQ etc and the serial card may be holding it captive.

Was not what I was saying, by default com1 and com3 share resouurces, since you have added com1 with a serial card then there may NOW be a conflict with the UIC card using com3. Open their properties and see if it says there is.

The easiest thing to do is shutdown, remove the serial card, reboot then see if the UIC works again, if so then there is some kind of conflict involved.

What I found was the UIC baud rate had defaulted to 9600 instead of the 19200 I was trying to use it at in RsLinx...

Thanks for all the ideas...
