ML1100 RS232 port type and Bootp

Yes, the MicroLogix 1100 supports BOOTP and DHCP for configuration of the EtherNet/IP port. BOOTP is enabled by default.

The serial port is physically very similar to the serial ports on MicroLogix 1000, 1200, and 1500 controllers. It's the same 8-pin Mini-DIN round port, and the same programming cables can be used.

One important difference is that an isolated RS485 port is included, which uses the pins (1 and 8) that are 24VDC power on other controllers. The MicroLogix 1100 has only RTS/CTS handshaking and does not have DCD/DSR/DTR pins.

An easy way to connect the ML1100 to a RS485 network (DF1 half duplex, Modbus, or DH485) is to use the 1763-NC01 "breakout" cable that terminates in screw terminals.

RA Knowbase Answer ID # 38808 has the pinout for the ML1100 serial port.
