Vista is not listed on the compatability matrix on the Siemens web site:

Why do people always assume they can run old software on new operating systems? Step 7 5.1 if from back in 2001, and 5.3 is from 2003. Vista is from THIS YEAR. Not everything about any Microsoft upgrade is backward compatible.
Every place I've ever worked they give the shop guys and electricians the oldest crappiest computer left in the building, so it was never an issue.

From what I heard from Siemens was that it is not yet compatible.
Possibilities to try:
1, Dual boot Vista and XP
2, Virtual machine running XP, if you look up an old thread, you may see that there was some success with this approach in the past.
I am currently setting up a virtual machine using an old, licenced copy of Win 2000 for which we no longer have a PC. If that works, I may expand it in anticipation for Vista*.
*anyone had any success using Win XP virtual machine on an Ubantu OS?
