does anyone know why that when a node fails on my profibus scanner the module seems to disable itself and will not allow any values from the remaining nodes to be sent or received

Toby, you're setting records for reticence. Unleash the details, man !

However, due to my wide-ranging powers of perception, I sense that you are using an SST-PFB-CLX Profibus DP scanner made by SST in Canada, with an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix control system.

The SST-PFB-CLX requires a little bit of ladder logic to start up the module and begin data exchange with the ControlLogix I/O memory. An example program is included with the configuration software and is also downloadable from SST's website.

Rung 2 includes a global Profibus status bit that won't let the module enabling logic continue until all the Profibus slaves are online. You may want to remove that bit from your logic.

Mind you, this is a guess based on the available information.
