Hi All,

I know that 1785-L80C (PLC 5 from AB) supports Controlnet. Does it support CIP? I am trying to access the 1785-L80C through 1785ENET card using a CIP driver. Can any one provide any help in this regard.

regards,
Manoj

A year or two ago the 1785-ENET firmware was upgraded so that it can communicate to ControlLogix controllers using "CIP", though they still support only the PLC-5 style addressing system and not the object and tag based CIP protocol. The ordinary "AB_ETH" Ethernet driver in RSLinx supports the 1785-ENET no matter what revision it is.

1785-ENET (Sidecar) Series B, any revision and Series A, revision D and higher support CIP transport.

I'm not enough of a protocol guy to explain it in detail, unfortunately. I can program MSG instructions from Logix to PLC-5E, but not create custom software.

a 1785L40C15 supports the CIP protocol on controlnet, however you are using an ethernet side card. The Side Card must be a series A rev D or greater in order for it to understand CIP on Ethernet.

You can flashupgrade the 1785-ENET.
