A company I work for has asked me to look into this - connecting a WW node to a PCS7 setup - I wont go into the reasons however they are sound.

I am sure there is an OPC server that comes with WinCC for such comms but has anyone had any experience with this.

Thanks

It does...but you may want to consider having dedicated datablocks in PCS7 Controllers (S7-400's PLC's) and use OPC server on your WW App. Now your not impacting on the PCS7 side and subject to upgrading and PC's and such. The load on the network would be about the same because you would still need to get data from PCS7 Server(s). The only drawback is you would need access to Processors Ethernet layer.

Waving said all this it's been done. I've seen separate WinCC and PCS7 systems connected is similar way.
