i am trying to use pointers in direct automation . i ahve looked at the example in the 06 hardware manual and downloaded some examples . i do not understand any of it . can someone break this down a little better ?

The Dl-06 "Pointers" is a method to achieve indirect addressing. In other words, the instruction does not operate on the address but on the value in a second address that the current address "points" (refers) to. By using pointers, you can do loop routines, where you keep doing the same operation, but on a different set of numbers each iteration, by simply changing the Pointer address.
