Can anyone recommend a learn-at-your-own-pace (distance education) type certification course, that would have respect in the industry, to learn the fundamentals of RSLogix 5000 software and ControlLogix hardware?

I'm comfortable with RSLogix 500 and the SLC 5/xx series PLCs but want to learn ControlLogix.

Thanks

There is a training software available from Rockwell for RS5000, which comes in 4 CD with activation for each.

It is 9393-RLSTLX5KALL RS Logix Trainer software

One way to address training is to sweet talk you local AB guys into borrowing a trainer box with a PLC in it and some software, if necessary. Most all the manuals are on the website and so you can get some practice. Then you can decide how much formal training that is required for your needs.

I have 2 suggestions

1.) If you have spare inventory where you work, setup a rack with a processor and start banging away. This can be time intensive and since you have previous AB experience, you may be ready for some of the more advanced functions of the CLX platform...not just getting connected, etc..

2.) I've used software from Koldwater Technologies in the past. The training software is cheap and worth the money, in my opinion. I purchased some of the SLC 500 training software several years ago, and felt I got more than I paid for. Their website is www.koldwater.com, I cannot vouche for the quality of their newer training software because I have not used it.

I would definately be interested in hearing from anyone who has used the control logix trainer from koldwater and here their oppinion of its effectiveness.

Thanks Greg, I did see Koldwater on the net and DLed a few of their demos. It's about $200 compared to AB's 4-day class which is $1750. Looks good.
