having problems addressing a safe slave to '0' them getting the master to accept it.

as regard to addressing safe slaves are they the same as non safe?

Addressing ASi safe is the same as 'normal' ASi except you can't use the extended 'B' addresses.
I don't think address zero is allowed with ASi at all.
One more thing - I think some safe slaves only allow you to readdress 15 times before it sticks.
Hope this helps

Paul's right. AS-I modules are all shipped with address 0 and need to be changed in order to use them. The only time you can add a module with the 0 address is if a slave fails and the "Auto-address" functionality is available. The master will assign the failed slave's address to the new one, provided it's the same type and only 1 module has failed.
