I am replaceing a slc 5/04 with a 5/05 so that we can hook it up to the ethernet. Currently we are using dh+ to communicate between the plc and panelview 900 which does not have a ethernet port. Is it possible to use 232 to communicate, since the 5/05 doesn't have a dh+ port. Any help would save me a lot of time from pulling a 232 cable. Thanks

yes, it will talk 232. how long of a run would it be? 232 has limitations in length while 485 will go much much farther. you may need to use 232 to 485 converters if it is too long.

It will be close to the 50 foot mark. The panelview is a 900 2711-t9c8 I tried to connect with another panelview that was the same ever time I try to changed the communications in the application setup it lists 2711-19c16. when i try to download it goes to the checking terminal for compatability but gives me an error. Does anybody know if there is way to change this c16 or does it have to be that model. We do not have one like it.

The PV you have 2711-T9C8 has a DH+ port ( used to communicate with a PLC) and a AUX port (RS232 port) used to download/upload its programm or can be configured as a printer port. The AUX port (RS232 port ) cannot be used to communicate with a PLC. You have have to change the comm card or get a different PV with comms you need.
