Profibus Gateway

Application, I have 4 AB MicroLogix 1500 connected on DH485 network. Customer has Profibus DP FiberOptic network for factory monitoring. My project is to make them talk.

While I dislike adding 3rd party hardware I see no other options. Search results have been dismal, On-Line I've found the SST Gateway, which gets me from DH485 to wired ProfibusDP, but i need another device to get from wired Profibus to fiber optic.

Experiences? Alternate suggestions? Please.

If it were me, I'd substitute 1761-NET-DNI's for the Net-AIC's that make up the DH485 network and use a Pyramid Solutions AB7605 Profibus DP/DeviceNet gateway. You'd still need a Profibus fiber/copper converter like the Hirschmann OZI-12, but you could get all that stuff for less cash than the X-Link.

Hmm. Maybe you could get a Profibus / Modbus RTU bridge and set up the MicroLogix as RTU slaves. They couldn't message to each other in that case, unfortunately.

(or, keep it simple and get the X-Link. You're certain it will work, even if it costs more).

Pyramid Solutions seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth. All searches for their website now dont exist.Even ABs website points to a dead link. Regards Alan Case

Not sure what's up with your linkability, Alan. My browser goes there OK.

A very expert company in industrial network cross-linking is "DataLink" of British Columbia. I don't actually endorse them as they violate some of my Company's patents, but they know this stuff better than 90% of my own specialists.

My computer must be sympathetic to ABs patents. It will not access the pyramid site. Any other site no problem. Alan

Sorry, Bob, this is getting off-course. That happens sometimes.

To reiterate, we're tossing around solutions to a problem that BobR doesn't have.

Probably the SST X-Link is the only device you'll find that specifically addresses DH-485 and Profibus DP, except maybe putting in a SLC-5/03 with a Profibus DP slave card. SST doesn't make a Profibus card for the 1769 Compact I/O platform (at least not yet).

Siemens has a converter from wired profibus to fiber. It is an OLM G11 or OLM G12 depending on how many ports you need.

Thank you kind sirs, for your suggestions. I have RFQ's out so I can compare costs of alternative methods.

Ciao, bOBg
