I have a Fanuc 90-30 that I am trying to connect to with my laptop. However I am having trouble connecting. Would anyone be able to give me the communications config?? Baud rate, bit stop, etc.

Default serial port parameters for the 90-30 is 19,200 baud, odd parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit. The programming software defaults to the same settings. Most users never need to change from the defaults.

More details about exactly what you are trying to accomplish will be helpful. Are you trying to connect to a COM port on your PC or are you using a USB/serial adapter? Are you trying to connect through the 15-pin port on the power supply? That is RS485, not RS232, so you will need a converter.

The most frequent problem I've seen in using USB/serial adapters is that they may get installed as a higher COM port number than the software is using. GE Fanuc programming software defaults to using COM1. You can change it to higher COM port number if necessary.

Is AB Linx on that machine. If so you have to disable it otherwise it will hog the com port so nothing else will work.

We have Logix and GE on the same laptop and that is always a problem.

What version of LM90 Micro is it? What OS are you running on your PC? If it's an old version of LM90, serial communications may not be possible under a current OS.

LM90 Micro isn't going to do you any good if you're dealing with a 90-30. Even if you can establish communictions, you're going to have issues that will be difficult, if not impossible to resolve.

I just tried running Logicmaster set up for the Micro and communicating through a USB adapter. I have LM90 version 9.05 running under Windows XP Pro. I can communicate with a 90-30, but I can't view the program because the there are memory addresses used in the program in the PLC that are outside of the limits for a Series 90 Micro PLC.

When you are looking at you logicmaster screen do you have MICRO OR 90-20 OR 90-3O in the top left hand conner if you do and MICRO is selected you need to hold down the shift key and then F3 this well change the software to a 90-30 processor.

We've got it!!! The problem was that we were running the micro software and needed to upgrade to include 90-20, and 90-30 in the program. The version we had was just micro. Running now. Thanks Steve for all your help.
