Hello everyone,
I have been monitoring a 0vdc to 10vdc analog input coming from a mechanical potentiometer (wire wound with wiper). This pot is attached to a dancer positioner. While monitoring I notice a 2vdc to 4vdc 10millisec spike approx. every 1 to 2 seconds. Is this typical ? The dancer is fairly stable, smooth operating.

Thanks for any thoughts on this
Regards
Dean

It may help if you mention a few more specifics !!

PLC Type ?

Where is the 10vdc supplied from,PLC or external ?

Is the pot very near any high power sources or motors ?

there could be number of reasons:

- not stable 10V supply voltage (replace or add filter)
- potentiometer is not wired correctly - ground loops (replace wiring, can also add filter as "bandaid")
- potentiometer is not wired correctly and picks noise (replace wiring and maybe add filter)
- programming error (not likely but possible - fix the program)
- potentiometer is worn out (replace or - add filter)
