I am doing a PLC controlled model railroad. I have made a website to highlight this. A few of you have shown interest. here is the link. www.bbtrailroad.com I am using a automation direct 305 10 slot base connected to a 5 slot base. This is all tied to a DP-c320 touch screen. I am controlling speed of trains, switch positions, and general building lighting at this point. I have also custom built the throttles. They are basically a variable power supply connected to a relay output, using 4 outputs, tying up to 4 resistors in parallel to vary the speed. look the site over and give me all the advice you can, right now all I have is a few tracks and alot of controls lol, thanks in advance.

I'm planning a PLC controlled model railroad as well. I intend to do block control and maybe some routing control (with automated switches). I never thought about doing speed control--that sounds like a clever idea.

I have a "surplus" SLC 500 shoebox with a couple of 32 point Digital I/O modules as the controller. The biggest issue I have is finding a PIC (or PIC substitute) that will fit into my relatively small hobby budget. My work isn't likely to "surplus" one any time soon...

I'm still undecided what I'll use for an HMI (or if I'll even use one). I'd love to run iFix, but it would require me to have my work laptop set up every time I (or my kids) want to operate the trains--probably not the best of ideas.
