Hello!

We're upgrading some 1336S drives to PowerFlex70, including the communication modules, from 1203-GDI to 20-COMM-R.

What are the considerations I should have in mind for this type of migration? Do I need to change the PLC program?

Thanks in advance!

Kron.

The 20-COMM-R functions like a 1203-GD1 that is set for 1/4 Rack or 1/2 Rack with Block Transfers enabled, and supports DataLinks via Block Transfer only.

If your 1336S drives are not using block transfers, or if you are using 1/2, 3/4 or Full Rack configurations to transfer DataLinks in the I/O memory image, then you will have to change your configuration.

There is a good RA Knowledgebase document describing the differences between these two interface methods: Article ID # 21565.
