Hi there,

It's not quite a plc question but, here at the office there is always a battle between the EIA people and the mechanical people about P&ID's.
Is there someone who has a solid manual/description what a P&ID should look like?

thanks

The ISA has a standard ISA-S5.1 that can be purchased on line at ww.isa.org.

The actual layout for systems and interconnections are not really standardized, but vary from company to company. Ovr the years I have seen variations from very elegant and detailed, including pipe sizes and equipment ratings, to very basic and almost useless. The only rule within any given company is that "it doesn't have to be right, just consistent." If you use a similar format, numbering scheme, and symbols for all of your diagrams the users will quickly learn to use them.
