forcing di/do & ai/ao from VAT ?

in step s7-400
is it possible to force inputs and outputs from variable table.If yes ,how to do it and is it possible to force it from VAT.
Right now i force inputs by using M1.0(always 0 bit) and M1.1(always 1 bit) or by inversing the input signal.
