Hello all,

I tried to search for it, but couldn't find an answer. I am familiar with the use of PanelViews over Ethernet, however tomorrow I need to go on site and help a customer connect a second PV to some existing machinery. The setup is as follows:

- Currently there is an SLC 5/03 using a PanelView 600 over RS232.
- Customer wants to connect a second PanelView 600 to the system for the opposite side of the machine.

What would be the best way to go about doing this?

Much appreciated,
Jeev.

Ha! Turns out the model they have is a 2711-T6C9L1 and only has 1 RS232 (DH-485) port on it. Point to point is what they're stuck with....

Cheers anyway.

The 5/03 has 2 ports DH485 and RS232 (DH485 if configured) so can you not use the DH485 port and stick a DH485 PV+ on the second port ?

You can connect two 2711-T6C9 terminals to a single SLC-5/03 easily using DH-485 protocol and a 1761-NET-AIC isolator/converter module.

The cabling can be a little tricky:

From the SLC-5/03 DH-485 port (the modular RJ-45 style) you need a 1761-CBL-AS03 or -AS09 cable to connect to the six-pin trunk connector on the 1761-NET-AIC. This cable can also be easily fabricated.

The 1761-NET-AIC has two RS-232 serial ports. One is a mini-DIN8 and the other is a conventional DSUB 9.

From the DSUB 9 port, you can use a straight-through F-F serial cable to one of the PanelView terminals.

From the Mini-DIN8 port, the usual method is to use a MicroLogix programming cable, the 1761-CBL-PM02, with a null-modem adapter on the PanelView side. I think you can get a purpose-built cable for this, too.... I'll look that up.

I had done system that use 2 PV600 connect to SLC 5/04 through DH+ communication. It works. DH+ support multi point connection.

Yeah I finally got the full story and did it on site today. They were running 2 PV 600s and a 5550 on DH+. Pretty straight forward really... Someone decided to play Chinese whispers with that first version of the story. =\
