Hi Everyone,

I'm an IT cosultant trying to move an old software from Aixtron called CACE.exe to a new computer. I copied all the necessary components, started the DDE service in Windows XP and installed RSLinx 1.7 which was used on the old computer. I configured RSLinx to connect to the PLC. RSlinx sees the PLC but CACE.exe reports that RSLinx is not running although the RSLinx service has been started and connected to the PLC. I've noticed that RSLinx doesn't show the DDE menu as it was on the old computer alythough I installed the same version. Does anyone know what's going on? I've never been able to get help from the manufacturers' support so I'm relying on peer-to-peer help.

Thanks,

Martha

I'm guessing you need to activate RSLinx to enable OPC/DDE.
Check to see if RSLinx is running as a 'Lite' version or not.
If it's 'Lite' then you need to transfer a license on the old computer to the new computer.

Steve.

Thanks for your reply. It's indeed running as Lite. How do I transfer the license? I thought by copying the serial number I would be able to activate it but I was wrong.

You need the original master disk. Then Start > Programs > Rockwell Software > Utilities > Move Activation from the "C" drive back to the master disk. Then move it to the new computer.

So there's no way to do without the master disk? This is an old machine that sat for many years in the lab and no one knows where the disk went. I copied the Rockwell folder files and registry key and imported them to the new machine then reinstalled RSLinx from the file I downloaded from Rockwell, but the installed program doesn't show the serial number that I imported into the regitry. I'm guessing I need to purchase a new disk directly from Rockwell?

Thanks for your reply. Since the original computer is a Windows NT Workstation, I couldn't use a USB flash. However, what I did was to share the C drive on the destination computer and map this drive on the old workstation as Z drive, then move the activation from the C drive on the old computer to the Z drive (the C drive on the destination computer).
