I've often imagined a SCADA computer smart enough to detect illegal operation from the plant operators, so that a hand would come out of the screen and slap the offenders!

it's not too expensive. one thing is that getting something processed in parallel is not easy. this will not make PC running faster the conventional application but with custom software to make use of the GPU with it's many cores will benefit people trying to crunch numbers (or passwords).

I think you need to remember all that stuff you told the kids
1. There is no room in the budget for this
2. All I have to do is put a roof over your head, warm clothes on your body, and food in your gut.
3. This would be a neat thing I agree, but it is a luxury
4. You want it - save your allowance and buy out of your pocket.
5. I know it sounds harsh and mean but this is part of your education and learning about the real world.

I remember my brother telling me about his son who waved this book at him and pointed at the page where it said a childs allowance should be 1% of family income (gross I think it was). Brother had hard time wriggling out of that one.
