I just stumpled upon this. It appears that MHJ has released its S7 Simulator in a freeware version. It is limited to simulate a 312C CPU, but I cannot see why that isnt good enough for learning programming S7.

I havent actually tried it myself, and wont use my time on it as I have Siemens own PLCSIM myself.
Maybe somebody else out there can use this.
Since I havent tried it, I cannot tell if there is a hidden gotcha somewhere. Someone else can try and come back with info.
