I want to start programming and designing small machines using x and y axes.
Can anybody recommend me a book i can use or a school i can attend in southern california.

You should start looking at different brands (searching plctalk) once you find one that you think will do what you want... check their website for training, they may have a local class, a lot of them have classes that travel
