We have a DH485 network with a SLC5/03, 2 SLC5/02 and 2 PV1400. There is a desire to put this information on the plant ethernet for remote monitoring. Can this be done by replacing the 5/03 with a 5/05 to get the ethernet connection and continue to do the other communications on the DH485 net?
Thanks.

Yes.

It might be cheaper to use a 1761-NET-ENI ( Ethernet to Serial) and connect this to the SLC5/03's serial port. The SLC5/05 is the better choice though.

I assume the 1761 net-eni would become another node on the dh485 net and would slower than the SLC5/05 option. Correct?

NET-ENI doesn't become another node. It simply converts the DF1 port to an Ethernet protocol.

If the DH-485 network is already in place, it's probably more cost-effective to get a single SLC 5/05 and a NET-AIC to use as a DH-485 pass-through. I have a 3-node DH-485 network connected this way and it works great. Just program the SLC 5/05 to read MSG from the nodes that have the data you want and store it locally for retreival or monitoring.
