1761-NET-AIC Setup

I am about to replace a pv 900 standard with a pv plus 1000 and moving from rio to a dh485 connection. The plc is a slc 5/04 so i will be using a 1761-net-aic to connect the slc to the pv over dh485.

Looking over the documentation to the net-aic it is not clear to me if i need and external power supply or not. The manual gives reference that it is not needed when connected to a micrologix but that is about it. I think i do need 24 volt power to it which i can get from the slc chasis powersupply as there is nothing on it now.

I just wanted to double check if i am correct or not?

If the Panelview is DH485 (the DB9 type) then you won't need the AIC at all. You just use a straight through cable to connect the SLC to the Panelview. The only connections you need are on pins 2,3 and 5. (Assuming its a 1:1 connection)

Otherwise I believe you need the external power if you aren't using the 8 pin connector on the AIC.

We are using the phoenix connector on the pv as the run is over 100 feet we are uing the aic to go from 232 to 485 wiring. Using DH 485 protocol

you can power NET AIC from the chassis however the power available at the chassis is limited. check the power requirement of all your I/O modules make sure there is enough left for NET AIC, otherwise you need an external power supply. There should be a switch in the AIC to determine where power is comin from, either from cable or external. Check this switch.
